About "Crumbs"
ahc, 07:35h
I open this topic category to share only some interesting text snippets of papers that make me think about Gestalt work immediately. Entries here are more like crumbs left after a crispy bite, but they are not the bite itself...

About this blog
ahc, 10:47h
This is the English version of the German Gestalt-Häppchen.
In the beginning all entries were double-language entries in one blog, but that form turned out to be too confusing...
When writing these entries, I sometimes use German first, sometimes English, so there is no "original" blog.
Idea
The idea to write this blog has ripened over several years. Originally, I was just very frustrated with the lack of communication between gestalt therapy that I experienced during my Gestalt training and (mainstream?) psychology that I got to know during my undergraduate and graduate years at the Psychological Institute at the University of Heidelberg. In the beginning, I was perplexed to see that both systems were seemingly closed (they used different terms and in the end I was not even sure whether they referred to the same thing anymore) and did not wish to simply introject a new ideology blindfolded ("Research supports Gestalt Therapy throughout!" - Where? Show me the papers!). My frustrations led to this little project.
As the years passed by I (more accidentally than intentionally) bumped into interesting research results within psychology which, from my view, could have also been very interesting for all those interested in Gestalt therapy and which I could not find in common Gestalt therapeutic literature. My search has become more intentional although I did not always have the time to dig into all themes deeply. Therefore, I pay a lot of attention to the quality of the articles I describe and often refer to carefully selected journals. Therefore, the range of articles is too wide and the selection not always systematic enough to feed into a fully-fledged journal article. Nonetheless, I want to structure my discoveries and not let them disappear in my personal drawer, but develop them further into an independent species (“bites”) that may act as miniature bridges between the fields. Often, Gestalt therapy research simply includes research about ist effectiveness (outcomes and processes) and neglects the core ideas themselves. Here, this blog tries to jump in.
Why a blog?
For practical reasons...
I am located in the People’s Republic of China, and writing from here brings about limited access to various sites and tools. I decided against a Chinese counterpart to a blog because it would have brought a lot of uncertainty (Where is the cloud located? How much tracking takes place without notice? Who is responsible as a host? etc.). Most important for me was that I could edit and control all of my entries myself and did not have to deal with too much formatting. In addition, I did not want any advertisement and tracking, and I wanted to know who is responsible for the domain. All this is given here.
...and for reasons of writing style
These bites are not supposed to become purely academical treatises using APA style, but interesting, reliable short information packages, sometimes humorous, sometimes blunt and shirtsleeved, yet, without frills. For me, blogs fill such a space.
Who this blog is for
I am writing this blog for Gestalt therapists and all those who have interest in Gestalt therapy, who want to stay informed about up-to-date research results that connect to Gestalt. At the same time, this blog is also for myself, to order my thoughts and accompany my personaly development in Gestalt therapy.
How often do I plan to update?
Around two bites a month, bi-lingual (German-English), and with some delay also trilingual (Chinese). Different language versions will keep their personal characteristics and are not intended to be literal translations only. Of course, I plan to reply to comments, although not always on the same day. Accordingly, this form of communication is intended to be slow.
About me
I earned a PhD in psychology and am a Gestalt therapist, currently teaching as an Associate Professor for Applied Psychology at the University of Zhejiang. Since 2019 I am also a research representative of the Institute for Integrative Gestalt therapy, Würzburg.
Disclaimer
This blog is my contribution to Gestalt therapy and entirely my personal, luxurious endeavor. I do not receive any monetary rewards or compensations for writing it.
I want to thank Dirk Olbertz for providing this platform free of charge.
I am looking forward to an interesting exchange and hope you have at least as much fun with these bites as I have! May you be bitten or simply chew the bites!
